Kemudian Julia diajak menulis buku memasak makanan Prancis untuk ibu rumah tangga di Amerika Serikat. Namun, proses penerbitan bukunya tidak segampang yang ia kira.
Disisi lain, Julie Powell (Amy Adams) merasa terjebak bekerja sebagai pekerja sipil di tahun 2002. Ia merasa sudah terlambat untuk mengejar impiannya sebagai penulis.
Berkat dorongan suaminya Eric (Chris Messina), Julie memulai sebuah blog memasak. Dalam satu tahun, Julie harus memasak semua 524 resep dari buku Julia Child.
Semakin banyak makanan yang dimasak, Julie mulai mengagumi Julia. Blog-nya juga mulai naik daun dan mendapatkan banyak pembaca. Namun, Julie kemudian harus mengimbangi kehidupan mayanya dengan realita.
