SERPONG, ULTIMAGZ.com—Sastrawan Tanah Air Sapardi Djoko Damono tutup usia pada Minggu (19/7/2020). Almarhum meninggal dunia pada usia 80 tahun di Rumah Sakit Eka BSD, Tangerang Selatan pada pukul 09.17.
“Selamat jalan penyair rendah hati: Sapardi Djoko Damono,” ucap Kepala Pemberitaan Korporat Tempo Arif Zulkifli melalui akun twitternya @arifz_tempo.
Sapardi Djoko Damono aktif dalam dunia sastra Indonesia sebagai pengajar, pengamat, kritikus, maupun pakar sastra. Setelah mendapatkan gelar doktor kesusastraan, dirinya aktif menjadi dosen di beberapa universitas seperti Universitas Indonesia (UI) dan Institut Kesenian Jakarta (IKJ).
Selama hidupnya, penyair kelahiran Surakarta ini telah menulis puisi, esai, dan cerita pendek. Beberapa di antaranya adalah “Aku Ingin” (1989) yang sudah dibuat dalam bentuk musikalisasi puisi dan “Yang Fana Adalah Waktu” dalam kumpulan sajak “Perahu Kertas” (1983)
Salah satu puisinya yang terkenal, “Hujan Bulan Juni” (1994) bahkan sudah pernah diadaptasi menjadi film layar lebar pada 2017. Puisinya dikenal orisinil dan kreatif. Selain itu, mengandung simbolisme.
Penghargaan dari dalam maupun luar negeri telah diraih oleh alumni Universitas Gadjah Mada ini. Penghargaannya yang pertama didapatkan dari Hadiah Majalah Basis atas puisi “Balada Matinya Seorang Pemberontak”. Di mancanegara, karya-karya Sapardi Djoko Damono pernah mendapatkan Cultural Award dari Pemerintah Australia pada 1978 dan Hadiah SEA Write Award (Hadiah Sastra Asean) dari Thailand pada 1986.
Selain menulis, Sapardi juga pernah menerjemahkan beberapa karya bahasa asing ke dalam bahasa Indonesia seperti “Lelaki Tua dan Laut” (“The Old Man and the Sea”) karya Hemingway.
