SERPONG, ULTIMAGZ.com – Lautan memang momok misterius yang belum tuntas dijelajahi makhluk cerdas sekaliber manusia. Dalam film Aquaman, penonton dipersilakan menyelami kehidupan lubuk lautan lewat perjuangan Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) meraih kembali takhta bawah lautnya di Kerajaan Atlantis.
Secara garis besar, Aquaman memiliki kisah yang menarik. Film besutan sutradara James Wan tersebut bercerita tentang kehidupan seorang anak yang memiliki darah campuran, setengah manusia dan setengah bangsa Atlantis bernama Arthur Curry. Film dimulai dengan adegan yang diiringi narasi Arthur tentang pertemuan ayahnya, Tom Curry (Temuera Morrison) yang seorang penjaga mercusuar dengan ibunya, Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman).
Seiring berjalannya waktu, Tom dan Atlanna saling jatuh hati dan hidup sebagai seorang pasangan. Namun sejatinya, Queen Atlanna telah memiliki pasangan yang sah di kerajaannya. Hal ini memaksanya kembali ke bawah laut dan meninggalkan suami serta anaknya.
Setelah beranjak dewasa, Arthur memiliki kemampuan layaknya bangsa Atlantis, yakni bernapas dalam air. Lebih dari itu, ia juga memperoleh kemampuan bak seorang pejuang hasil latihannya sejak kecil bersama penasihat Kerajaan Atlantis bernama Vulko (William Dafoe).
Konflik berkembang ketika adik tiri Arthur yang bernama Orm (Patrick Wilson) hendak memicu perang dengan dunia manusia yang dinilai mengancam kehidupan dunia laut, termasuk kerajaannya. Oleh karena itu, Mera (Amber Heard) meminta Arthur untuk mengakuisisi takhta yang seharusnya jadi miliknya demi menghentikan perang tersebut.
Dalam film ini, efek visual dan permainan warna memang sangat menonjol. Terlebih, Aquaman menampilkan keindahan bawah laut yang tak dihadirkan film superheroes daratan lainnya. Sederhananya, DC seolah ingin meneruskan kesuksesan film Wonder Woman yang menuai pujian karena efek visual luar biasa.
Tak hanya penggambaran makhluk-makhluk laut yang tak bisa membuat diri berhenti berdecak kagum, film yang diproduksi DC bersama Warner Bros ini turut menghadirkan visual para aktor/aktris yang luar biasa, terutama melalui karakter Arthur dan Mera.
Jason Momoa yang tampil dengan lekukan otot sempurna di sekujur tubuh mampu menampilkan image gentleman yang sempurna. Belum lagi tato, brewok, dan rambut gondrong Momoa yang semakin membuat karakter Arthur mudah diingat penonton. Kemudian, karakter Mera yang diperankan Amber Heard juga tampil memukau. Dengan kulit putih mulus dan rambut merah yang hampir selalu basah menjadi senjata pesona Mera yang mirip seperti karakter Ariel di The Little Mermaid.
Namun sayang, alur maju-mundur di bagian awal hingga tengah film tersemat kurang rapi. James Wan seakan keteteran menyatukan plot masa lalu dan masa kini di film tersebut. Eksekusi yang kurang halus terasa kala suatu adegan hanya ditampilkan terlalu singkat tanpa adanya makna yang cukup jelas. Salah satu contohnya adalah ketika Arthur remaja dilatih oleh Vulko agar siap menjadi calon raja. Kala itu, Vulko memberitahu kondisi Queen Atlanna yang telah dihukum mati oleh bangsanya sendiri. Kekecewaan Arthur remaja digambarkan sangat singkat hingga penonton belum sempat menikmati kedukaannya dan memahami keengganan Arthur kembali menjadi penghuni Atlantis.
Aquaman juga turut menyelipkan isu sosial, khususnya kebersihan laut yang sedang hangat diperbincangkan masyarakat dunia. Lewat visualisasi sampah-sampah yang dibuang sembarangan ke lautan hingga perburuan ikan ilegal, film ini menyampaikan sindiran sosial kepada masyarakat yang tak peduli soal kehidupan laut.
Secara garis besar, Aquaman bukan alternatif yang buruk untuk dijadikan pembunuh waktu. Walau cenderung menampilkan alur yang mudah ditebak, film ini menawarkan visual yang memanjakan mata. Jika menonton, pastikan tetap bertahan hingga credit title diputar.
