Grey’s Anatomy menceritakan tentang perjalanan Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) ketika menjalani masa residen hingga sukses menjadi dokter bedah di Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital. Di sana, ia bertemu dengan dokter residen bedah lainnya yaitu Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), Dr. Christina Yang (Sandra Oh), Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), dan Dr. George O’Malley (T. R. Knight).
Lima dokter residen tersebut ditugaskan untuk bekerja di bawah bimbingan Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), seorang kepala residen di Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital. Tidak hanya menggambarkan kehidupan para dokter saja, serial televisi ini juga mengajarkan penonton dasar-dasar pertolongan pertama untuk berbagai kondisi medis.
Selain itu, Grey’s Anatomy juga berfokus pada kisah pertemanan dan percintaan, menggambarkan hubungan yang kompleks serta penuh emosi antara para karakternya. Salah satunya adalah perjalanan cinta Dr. Meredith Grey dan Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) yang penuh rintangan.
Hingga saat ini, Shonda Rhimes telah merilis 21 musim yang memuat 437 episode Grey’s Anatomy. Melansir imdb.com, serial dengan genre drama ini berhasil meraup 88 penghargaan dan 256 nominasi. Salah satunya adalah Golden Globes Award kategori Best Television Series pada 2007.
Melansir dari rottentomatoes.com, serial yang pertama kali dirilis melalui layanan streaming ABC ini juga berhasil mendapatkan rating 84 persen Tomatometer. Rating yang mengesankan ini semakin mengukuhkan posisi Grey’s Anatomy sebagai salah satu serial televisi yang paling diminati penonton.

Terdapat dua serial televisi yang merupakan spin-off dari Grey’s Anatomy, yaitu Private Practice dan Station 19. Sementara itu, Station 19 menceritakan kehidupan para petugas pemadam kebakaran di Seattle Fire Station 19.
