SERPONG, ULTIMAGZ.com – Zaman sekarang, banyak yang sering menggunakan telepon genggam untuk melakukan berbagai aktivitas. Namun, kehadiran teknologi ini justru membuat orang-orang malas membaca buku konvensional. Sebab, telepon genggam menawarkan hiburan yang dianggap lebih menarik dari membaca buku.
Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, The New York Public Library (NYPL) mengeluarkan inovasi baru dalam bentuk Insta Novels. Inovasi baru ini menjadi cara unik untuk meningkatkan kebiasaan membaca di era digital.

Insta Novels merupakan novel digital yang bisa dibaca melalui kumpulan Instagram story. Insta Novels pertama kali diluncurkan pada 2018 di Instagram resmi NYPL (@nypl), melalui kerjasama dengan studio desain Mother in New York.
Tentu, Insta Novels bukan sekadar kumpulan foto pindaian dari buku aslinya. Isi novel ditata secara rapih hingga mudah dibaca dari layar telepon genggam. Setiap halaman memiliki tema ilustrasi yang menarik dari sampul, daftar isi, hingga setiap halamannya.
Di sisi kanan bawah setiap halaman terdapat sebuah area bertulis “thumb here” atau suatu simbol yang menandakan letak Ultimates menahan jempol ketika sedang membaca. Insta Novels juga dimuat dengan beragam ilustrasi berwarna, sampai dengan ilustrasi video. Semua ini membuat Insta Novels terasa seperti pengalaman yang interaktif dan hidup.
Lima judul Insta Novel telah dirilis, yang meliputi karya klasik seperti “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” (1865), “The Yellow Wallpaper” (1892), “The Raven” (1845), “The Metamorphosis” (1915), dan “A Christmas Carol” (1843). Novel tersebut adalah karya dari penulis-penulis ternama, seperti Lewis Carroll, Edgar Allan Poe, dan Charles Dickens.
Setiap Insta Novel juga diilustrasikan oleh desainer yang berbeda-beda dari studio desain Mother in New York sehingga Ultimates tidak akan bosan membacanya. NYPL juga menyediakan video tutorial berisi cara menavigasi Insta Novels.
Melalui Insta Novels, NYPL tidak hanya membuat proyek yang sejalan dengan perkembangan era digital, tetapi juga berhasil merancang solusi untuk meningkatkan minat membaca dari generasi muda.

Sejak lima novel yang telah dirilis, NYPL belum sempat menerbitkan Insta Novels lagi. Namun, inovasi ini tetap berhasil meningkatkan minat membaca sehingga orang tertarik untuk membaca buku lainnya.
