Mengutip indiatoday.in, asal-usul Haka berkaitan dengan mitologi Maori. Konon, tarian tersebut dibuat oleh Tane-more, putra Dewa Matahari Tama-nui-te-ra. Haka pertama kali dilakukan oleh tim rugbi pribumi Selandia Baru All Blacks pada 3 Oktober 1888, dilansir dari experienceallblacks.com.
Tarian ini berfungsi untuk menampilkan kekuatan dan persatuan sebuah suku.
Gerak-Gerik Tarian Haka dan Makna Seruannya
